Allright guys, I'm long overdue for a post but for the life of me can't think of a topic. I don't want this to turn into a "My Thoughts On the Election" or "Why I Like Pie" type columns (there's enough of that on the web already) I just need some dolly oriented ideas to get recharged. If anyone has anything they would like to see talked about here, please give it up because I can't seem to get fired up about anything right now. Anything at all. Heads, cranes, dollies, track, safety, skates, set ettequite, whatever. I need some inspiration or this place is going to get awful boring.

ReplyDeleteDealing with track & wheel noise. Seems like everybody has some different kind of juju they swear by. I like Lemon Pledge, and not just for the fresh lemony smell it gives to steel.

Some problems that i see in our near future is the use of these HUGE monitors that operators and Dp's like to place on top of the HD cameras nowadays.....from what i see, it is making the camera so top heavy, that if you are moving around on a pee-wee or fisher 11, it is too much weight for the arm and it moves the camera too much. So, inevitably, when your on dancefloor or even a faster move on track, the operator will look over his shoulder and shake the camera and say..." seems shaky man......" I see it happening more and more and wonder, aside form having to brace the arm everytime now, has anyone found a good solution????

In the same vein, but not your purview is the helicopter opening in Frenzy.
There are some wonderful things out there about Lawrence of Arabia, and the intense gripwork. Coping with extreme environments might be another good topic.
